Welcome to the 2024-25 year at the IDEA Academy @ Cottonwood School. Thank you for a remarkable last year. I am thrilled to be your principal. I am looking forward to working with you, and our outstanding staff, to make this year the most memorable and positive learning adventure yet for your children.

Recognizing that parents remain the most significant factor in a students’ success, I also encourage your active involvement and participation in our school community. Parents are welcomed and encouraged to volunteer in classrooms and share in shaping our school’s story by being actively involved with the Parent Teacher Association (PTA), School Site Council (SSC) , English Learner’s Advisory Committee (ELAC), West Antelope Valley Education Foundation (WAVE), and other school and district committees.

At the IDEA Academy, we have a specialized STEAM approach that includes a focus on Innovation, Design, Engineering, and the Arts. Our specialized WASC accredited program provides an educational choice for learning the California standards in math, English language arts and literacy in history/social studies, and science through the integration of STEAM throughout the instructional day. Our school uses the innovative approaches of design thinking and Project Based Learning (PBL), as well as use of the nationally recognized engineering curriculum, Project Lead the Way (PLTW) in classrooms, the makerspace and engineering lab. All students, in universal pre-kindergarten through 6th grade, are exposed to high quality arts instruction in drama, visual arts, and music. We are also an AVID certified and AVID showcase school and use AVID’s college-career prep strategies to help kids achieve success
